This is all about the "Wait! What?" factor. Have you ever been watching a movie or reading a book and you get blindsided by a plot progression that doesn't make sense? You know, an instant solve? I worry about this with writing because sometimes it feels like it takes too long to get from point A to point B. An instant solve would be easy, but taking the easy way out doesn't solve the long term of the book.
This song is like that for me. The guy doesn't want to admit that his girlfriend broke up with him, so he tells everyone she died in a tragic way. =)

I curled up with my daughter last night and watched this movie. (FYI- I love it... thoroughly!!!) We love the simple love story, the fascinating fight scenes, the moral to the story and how perfectly it ended.
It has been hard to write book two and know that there can be no great HEA ending. It has to end in conflict; which is not the way my heart leans. But I feel inspired by Thor that there is a perfect ending that doesn't resolve with a kiss and forever promise.

Happy Fathers' Day! My father has said this from as far back as I can remember. It may at first strike you as a tough-love saying, but if you look closer you can learn a lot. Both Kira and Jack have had to deal with hard situations and have had to push through those times to get to the other side.

Well, today's inspiration is mostly due to the fact that I love to listen to Michael Buble' sing anything. But it is also about dancing. Now, I am all for girl-power, feminist, girls-can-do-anything-boys-can-do, wonder woman. However, when it comes to dancing, a little machismo is needed in a good partner.

When I started writing I Wish... I had a very long, and possibly heated, conversation with my sister about lies. We found that most reality-based fantasy books relied heavily on lying in order to move the plot along without stopping to explain everything to each person they pass in the book. Now, as a parent, I hate lying. Really, truly do... but as a writer, I can see its merits.
I included a clip from I Am Number 4 because it is one of my favorite YA movies, and yet the entire plot is based on secrets and lies. The main character has to lie to his friends, the girl he loves, law enforcement, and occasionally his father-like guardian, and everything is wrapped up tightly with secrets. It's truly appalling how often this happens throughout the movie, and yet... I still love it.
